Volvo S60 vs BMW 3-Series in Sinking Spring

Compare the Volvo S60 and BMW 3 Series Near Sinking Spring PA

What do you want out of your next luxury sedan? It's a question that deserves a little forethought before you make a decision that will involve spending a significant amount of money. Even if you're leasing your next luxury car, you'll want to do your homework first to ensure that what you're getting matches up with not only your needs but also your desires. And you'll want to get a feel for what could become your next car, too, by taking it for a test drive around Wyomissing or Wernersville sooner or later. But for now, allow us to provide you with some information on how the new Volvo S60 compares with one of the most popular compact luxury sedans on the market, the BMW 3 Series.

Performance and Efficiency

The Volvo S60 comes well-equipped from the get-go, featuring a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes driving around Robesonia and Reading, PA more fun. Creating 240 horsepower, this entry-level engine seems anything but. In contrast, the BMW 3 Series comes standard with a 180-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Additional engines are available in both the S60 and 3 Series as well. Mid-level S60 T6 models offer a 302-horsepower engine while upgrading to a mid-level 3 Series 4-cylinder engine gives you 248 horsepower, little more than a base S60. If you're searching for a high-performance sports-sedan with a dash of luxury, then the S60 Polestar, which offers 362 horsepower, or the BMW M3, which offers 425 horsepower are what you'll be considering.

It's hard to beat Volvo where safety is concerned. One of the most well-reputed car companies for creating safe vehicles, Volvo has pulled out all the stops with the S60, even if it is considered their entry-level sedan offering. With top safety scores and standard Volvo Safety City technology, the S60 can both actively help prevent you from getting into an accident and mitigate the damage in the event one does occur. The BMW 3 Series does come with a rearview camera (an option on the S60 despite having other advanced tech standard). However, you'll have to add on other active safety features if you choose the 3 Series.

Infotainment Technology

Technology and infotainment are a part of modern luxury standards. The S60 offers a 7.1-inch infotainment display and eight standard speakers with Bluetooth streaming included. The 3 Series has an iDrive system and offers the latest in smartphone integration as optional equipment. Both vehicles offer upgraded audio systems, and they're both from premium speaker manufacturer Harmon Kardon.

Comfort and Convenience

As the Volvo and BMW are both luxury vehicles, you'd expect them each to come standard with a variety of features to make life more comfortable and convenient. And if that's the case, neither will disappoint. The S60, for instance, has dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, leather seating surfaces, and more. The 3 Series comes with SensaTec leatherette, dual-zone climate control, push-button start, and more.

Price, even in the entry-level luxury segment, can still be the final frontier for some buyers, making or breaking a deal. The Volvo S60 has a slight advantage over the BMW 3 Series here, with a base price of $34,100 versus the BMW's $34,900 base-price. Considering what you get in a S60 -  added power, luxury features like real leather and a moonroof, and Volvo Safety City among other niceties - we think the Volvo is not better equipped, but also a better value. But don't take our opinion at face value; come test drive an S60 today and experience this Volvo sedan for yourself!
