All-New 2018 Volvo XC60 Continues to Make Waves Among Our Reading Drivers

We’ve gotten a few confused looks this winter and autumn when someone comes by to take a look at the XC60. Although the all-new 2018 model is now on sale at our showroom, the outgoing 2017 model—which has been a favorite of our Sinking Spring drivers since its inception—was still on offer. That’s because even after its second generation update, it was still difficult to stop the first generation’s success. Now, we’re proud to tell you that the Volvo XC60 picks up right where its forebear left off!

The 2018 XC60 may be all-new, but that doesn’t mean that Volvo has let it become unfamiliar. Although you’ll find the T-shaped “Thor’s Hammer” LED daytime running lights and trademark grille that have marked recent models, the crossover’s exceptional looks and luxuries are still recognizable. It even manages to show family resemblance to the XC90 while having its own sleeker, more athletic identity.

But good looks on the outside are but the start of the XC60’s offerings for 2018. It’s cargo capacity with the rear seats folded is near the top of its class, and with quality cabin furnishings arranged in accordance with Swedish tradition, you don’t have to choose between interior luxury and spaciousness. Like its big sibling, the XC60 also comes standard with the Sensus Connect infotainment system, and a variety of leathers, and metal and wood finishes to round out its inner sanctum.

The 2018 XC60 also impresses with its powertrain selection. Offered in FWD or AWD with 250-hp T5, 316-hp T6, and 400-hp T8 Plug-in Hybrid, you have no shortage of options available to you. Add on the optional suspension available on Inscription models, and a buttery-soft ride with the option to make it more lively or subdued through selectable drive modes provides a truly luxurious driving experience.

The latest XC60 also benefits from Volvo’s continuing emphasis on safety. Pilot Assist—the semi-autonomous driving system—is available as an option, while the IntelliSafe City Safety system and Lane-Keeping aid are standard equipment on base “Momentum” models. Move up to the R-Design and Inscription, and more systems become available, including the “Advanced Package” that raises the XC60’s IIHS rating from “Top Safety Pick” to “Top Safety Pick Plus” (in short, we recommend this).

The prospect of making the 2018 XC60 your own may be exciting enough, but experiencing it in action for the first time is something else entirely.
